Best Star Wars Rap and now a Twin Peaks Rap
by Bug on May.24, 2010, under Bug, Music
Nerdcore rapper and voice talent MC Chris has release a Twin Peaks rap. MC Chris has been around for a while now, providing his voice for many Adult Swim shows, like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and my favorite Sea Lab 2021, where he voiced Hesh Hepplewhite.
He also has writing credit for The Brak Show, as well as the Space Ghost Coast to Coast.
Even though he does not like the term Nerdcore, when referring to his songs, it kind of fits. My all time favorite Star Wars song is by him. It is called Fett’s Vette.
Writing songs about Star Wars, Twin Peaks, and Dungeon and Dragons, does not help him shake his nerdcore label.
If you like the songs, you can check out more at his website.

The Pixies – Doolittle Live Review (November 21st)

The Pixies – Doolittle Live Review (November 21st)
This past Saturday I saw The Pixies at the Aragon Ballroom, in Chicago, IL. This is not the first time I have seen then band, and even thought the band was great Saturday night; it was not the best show I have seen from them but it was a good show.
The band is made up of singer-guitarist Black Francis, bassist Kim Deal, drummer David Lovering and guitarist Joey Santiageo.
The band had actually broke up back in 1993, but like most bands they eventually got back together in 2004 to tour. The show I saw from the 2004 tour was one of the best shows I have ever seen, so the bar was set pretty high for the performance this Past Saturday. The show started out with clips from an old silent black and white movie. Where one of the clips showed a eyes balls being sliced, referring to the song Debaser. The stage then filled with smoke, and the band walked on stage. Kim said now time for some B-sides. Where they played the following songs
1. Dancing The Manta Ray
2. Weird At My School
3. Bailey’s Walk
4. Manta Ray
Kim then said something like “Time for side 1” and they broke into the Doolittle album
5. Debaser
6. Tame
7. Wave of Mutilation
8. I Bleed
9. Here Comes Your Man
10. Dead
11. Monkey Gone To Heaven
Then “Time for side 2”
12. Mr. Grieves
13. Crackity Jones
14. La La Love You
15. No. 13 Baby
16. There Goes My Gun
17. Hey (a lot of the crowd sang along to this, which kind of surprised me)
18. Silver
19. Gouge Away
Then Band walked off staged, and a few minutes later they returned for their first Encore. Where Kim said “time for some more B-sides, but ones you should know”
20. Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) (which is my preferred version)
21. Into The White (the lighting during this song was fantastic, to where the light was bright a strobbing behind the band, to where you could only make out their silhouettes)
The band then left the stage and the rest of the lights came up. One of two issues I had with the show was the house did not deem all the lights when the show started. Then main lights were deemed, but the outlining lights were left all the way on. They should have deemed the out lining lights, which I think would have helped in my other main issue. The crowd, they were acting like they were more there to hang out, then to enjoy the show. They were loud, and I felt interpretive. I think if the house had deemed all the lights, some of the people would have calmed down, and instead of talking, and enjoyed the show. So the lights came up, as the band left the stage. People started leaving thinking the show was over.
The band then returned to the stage for the one hell of a 2nd encore. (the lights never were deemed again)
22. Holiday Song
23. Something Against You
24. Vamos
25. Where Is My Mind?
The band then laid down their instruments and said their thank you and took their bows. When Kim walked over and whispered something in Black Francis ear, and the next thing I knew they were picking up their instruments again, and they broke into
26. Gigantic
This was a great song to end the setlist.
During the whole show the screen behind the stage would show different things, however it did not feel complete, or did it feel like it added to the show. A few of the more memorable, things were during the “Here Comes Your Man” were it showed the band, each in their own block making faces and doing thing odd facial gestures. During “La La Love” It had some cute heart animation. The last screen event that really jumps out was during the end of the second encore and the band was making its way off the stage. The screen showed the band trying to line up and take a bow. Which the band on the stage tried to mimic on stage, but Black Francis could not seem to find his place. He finally did and both the band and the recorded on screen band took their bows.
The band has had a rough history to where Kim Deal and Black Francis were not speaking, to where they are at now, and they seem to really be having fun at what they do.
For those of you who missed it the show, or those of you who want to relive it can buy a copy of the show here www.doolittlelive.com
So even thou the set list was a great set of songs, and the band was great. The venue and the crowd were not, and were biggest let down of the evening. This show would have been some much better, if we had all been on the same page.
If you have never seen The Pixies, I would highly recommend seeing them, just not in Chicago.
